OUR TESTIMONIES OF THE PROPHET JOSEPH SMITH

I've had a testimony of the Prophet Joseph since I was a little boy. There are 5 reasons I know Joseph Smith was a prophet and saw what he reported in the First Vision.

1. Every Christmas Eve family party, we'd sing our Christmas songs then Mom, who was at the piano, would include "Praise to the Man" in honor of Joseph's birthday which is the 23rd of December. The Spirit bore witness every time to the truth of the message we were singing regarding the validity of this great man "who communed with Jehovah".

2. As a boy I prayed about the Book of Mormon to know if it was true. In what I call a "double-barrel" witness, I received my answer to both the truthfulness of the BofM and the man who was instrumental in bringing it forth. That same confirmation has been received every time I read the BofM and ask about its validity and truthfulness and about the Prophet Joseph.

3. In the mission field it was confirmed with even stronger confirmation each time I recalled and taught the Joseph Smith story. We had to memorize the lessons then, and reciting the First Vision experience brought with it its own confirmation. 

4. I have studied, and studied the BofM, the D&C, the Pearl of Great Price, and most of the other writings of Joseph including sermons and Lectures on Faith. I've studied about him from those first-hand witnesses who knew him and I've read his journals. Throughout my studies, it is consistently confirmed that Joseph was a prophet of God, inspired to restore the gospel including the ordinances and covenants of salvation.

5. The final reason I know Joseph was a prophet is because along with confirming my faith, reason is my other measure of truth. The things of God "fit" together in a perfect plan. Reason and logic are given to us to prove and test our theories and hypotheses. Though there are gaps in my knowledge I continue to study, reason and ask in faith. 

As you can see, the Holy Spirit has been working on me my entire life. I planted the seed long ago and my evidence is a tree of knowledge that continues to grow and BEAR FRUIT! I know Joseph Smith was a prophet of God and restored the Gospel of Jesus Christ!

I believe in the Prophet Joseph Smith

I had heard of the Prophet Joseph Smith from the time I was a toddler.  I heard about him at home, in Primary, in Young Women, in Church and in Seminary.  I read about him in the scriptures, the New Era and the Ensign and I heard testimonies of him at Sacrament meeting.  My own personal testimony happened when I was 37.

A few weeks after 5 year old Joseph came to our family and before we adopted him we had a Church History trip planned. He joined us in our crowded van with 7 people as we went to many church sites including the Kirtland temple, the Cartage jail and the Sacred Grove.

 At the Sacred Grove Dan and I took turns entering the sacred grove, hoping for a spiritual experience.  The older kids entered alone as well.  Because there were very few people that day we could each seek out our own private place to pray.  The leaves were many shades of green and the aspen trees stood tall against the sky.  There were soft sounds of birds and a canopy of blue sky. 

I found a spot at the edge of the grove and knelt down, asking God to confirm the reality of Joseph Smith as a prophet of God.  As I waited, mosquitos seemed to swarm around my head, threatening to enter my mouth and nose. Soon I found myself swatting them with my hands, my turning body and blowing air from my nose and pinching it as I guarded myself from the onslaught.  Instead of inspiration I felt annoyance, instead of the spirit I felt like fleeing the very spot I had longed so much to be in.  My dream was gone and all I wanted to do was get into the car as fast as I could and hope to leave the invading mosquitos behind.

The pathway from the sacred grove to the car lot was about the length of a football field.  It lead downhill the first half of the way and uphill the second half near the parking lot.

I was hurrying down the first half of the path when I received an incredible gift.  Words that burned into my mind said “Yes, Joseph was a true Prophet of God.”

And that was that. I knew for myself.

This testimony has been my companion for decades now.  I know that Joseph Smith is a true Prophet of God.

Thank you Patricia for allowing me to publicly express my deep love and reverence for the prophet, Joseph Smith.  Last night, during a meeting, I viewed a small portion of the Joseph Smith story where he and Hyrum were murdered in the Carthage jail...I know the story, I know the outcome, yet tears spilled from my eyes and my heart swelled within me as I tried to regain my composure. As his beloved brother Hyrum lay dying in his arms, I sensed in  those moments the desolation, the fear, and quite possibly the peace, he must have felt to know that the time had come; his mortal experience was truly ending...his blood would now seal all that he had tried to accomplish since seeing a vision at the tender age of fourteen.  What a remarkable man to have walked the earth.  I add my testimony to that of President John Taylor when he said: "Joseph Smith, the Prophet and Seer of the Lord, has done more, save Jesus only, for the salvation of men in this world than any other man that ever lived in it."    Karen Johnsen

MISSIONARY MOMENTS

So, this might be the shortest correspondence ever from Elder Draper, in my personal email he stated that his companion left the mission, he had been there 10 months, was from Switzerland, so Elder Draper has just been running around with the Zone Leaders this week. I really felt bad that his companion left. I think he will bounce back though.

I don´t have much time really. 
  
I am getting a new companion. His name is Elder Glissmeyer. He is from Utah. He is 6 foot 8 and a basketball player. I am super excited. 
  
My district is going to be really different. 
  
We have an awesome #BecauseHeLives initiative going on. 
  
We had a crazy week of running around and running into awesome people. 
  
I know that this work is the work of the Lord. I can feel it. It is so amazing to be in His service. I know that the Savior is at the center of it all. Through him we are saved

Subject: A wonderful week in Berlin 
Hi all,
My new companion is really awesome. We have been hitting the pavement and having some pretty cool experiences.We did lots of finding last week. One man even barked at us.  We found some new investigators. Fiona, Sahid, Ahmed, and Corina. None of them are from Germany, but they are all awesome.
It is crazy how fast everything is going, I mean really. I really just do not want to leave. It is such an interesting experience. I am so greatful. 
We gave the class in Gospel Essentials about the Priesthood. I have been thinking about this a lot. It is really the means by which we have access to the atonement and all of our saving ordinences. I am so grateful for being able to work under this authority and to be counted worthy to hold it. It is one of my most precious privilages. I really know that it is only to be found in this church. The Lord has really restored this authority to the earth.

Hi all,

This week was pretty interesting and pretty cool as well.

Illuminati Tomatoes
We talked to a couple Muslim guys on the street, or rather, they interupted our conversation with someone. They told us that we were doing the work of the devil and that our church was founded by Illuminati (as well as all western culture, the president, yes, and even tomatoes.) They didn't really let us say much. They would ask a question and then interrupt our answers. They said that Christ was not crucified, nor did he die. Apparantly, there are six organs across the chest of immaterial nature. The fourth of which could give you power to control the universe in the palm of your had and you could show it to somone and they would die. It was a really weird experience. Like everybody on this day was telling us that we were doing the wrong thing.
Serbian Man and the Book of Mormon
We had met this man a week earlier and got his adress. We told him that we would bring by a book of mormon in Serbian on Tuesday. We didn't end up having time to make that, so we went back on Thursday, and he was just outside. He was super excited to get the book of mormon. Probably the most excited I have yet seen. He showed it to all of his family and friends. It was awesome.
Ipad seminar
It was actually more like a mission conference and we did not get ipads. The cases were there already but the ipads are still being shipped. We got many manuals and things. I learned a lot in this respect of missionary work. It is but a tool that we are to use to serve the Savior. It will take a while to get everything up and running. I will probably be home before it actually is at its highest level.. probably. It will be way cool to use them though. 

We have been finding quite a few people lately. We found six this last week, and that has not happened on my whole mission. 
I think that it is always so amazing that the Lord trusts his missionaries. It is such a precious work. That really says something about how much the Lord loves his children. He really does love us. He is willing to let us bring great things to pass. I know that he has strengthened me and given me all that I have needed. I know that sometimes I let him down, but through Jesus Christ I can change.
